South-central Brazil: Sugar production in the second half of August was down 6% year on year

According to the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (Unica), in the second half of August, 45.067 million tons of sugarcane was crushed in the central and southern regions of Brazil, down 3.25% year on year; Sugar production was 3.258 million tons, down 6.02% year-on-year; Ethanol production fell 6.25 per cent year-on-year to 24.52 litres. Sugar mills use 48.85% of sugarcane to produce sugar, compared to 50.75% in the same period of the upper pressing season.

As of September 1, the total amount of sugarcane pressed in the central and southern parts of the 24/25 season was 422.61 million tons, an increase of 3.93%. The total sugar production was 27.169 million tons, an increase of 3.9%. The cumulative ethanol production was 20.457 billion liters, an increase of 7.14%. Sugar mills use 49.15% of sugarcane to produce sugar, compared to 49.17% in the same period of the last pressing season.
